Parting is such sweet sorrow . . . November 25, 2007

So now, at the end of my time at The Dream Centre, it's time to reflect  on all that it has been.  It is a process that may take a lifetime.
Would I do it all again? . . . in a moment!   For those considering volunteering, I'd highly encourage you to make the decision and do it.  It's an education and experience of a lifetime.
Arriving was difficult, but departing much more so.  Many goodbyes were extremely emotional, and my habit of waving goodbye and saying "See you" needed to be quickly curbed when the first patient replied "When?"
Some hugs were the "I know I'll see you again", and some were a transfer of strength from one human being to another.  My most memorable goodbye was Bonga.  When seeing me in the lobby on Saturday morning, with my backpack on and heading out the door, he tapped my hand and said . . . "See you Monday?"

Reading about your personal experiences opens up a new world - I feel as if was there with you in some ways. Your words remind me so much of the emotional experiences I have had as a volunteer myself. I'm so glad you have had such a meaningful time at The Dream Centre!

While reading you're notes, I had a mental video of you're actions and reactions. Bernie and I are very much looking forward to you're ongoing notes on you're exciting times with the baboons.
Take care....Ernie
